What is IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a globally recognised English language proficiency test designed for international students and migrants who wish to study, live, or work in an English-speaking country.

It is jointly owned and administered by three organisations: the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge University Press & Assessment.

The IELTS has two test formats:

IELTS Academic for university admissions and higher education abroad
IELTS General Training for migration and work in English-speaking countries

Speaking

The first three sections are completed back-to-back on the same day without breaks. The Speaking test may be scheduled on the same day or up to seven days before or after.

Total test duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Important update: From late June 2026, the paper-based IELTS format is being phased out. Computer-delivered tests are available almost daily across major Indian cities. A 'Writing on Paper' option remains available at select centres for candidates who prefer handwriting.

About PTE

What is PTE?

The Pearson Test of English (PTE), a fully computer-based English language proficiency test, assesses through AI-based scoring, with results typically available within 48 hours. It evaluates four skills:

Writing

Speaking

For Canadian immigration, PTE Core is the accepted format — not PTE Academic.

PTE Core

Minimum age eligibility: 16 years
Candidates aged 16–17 must submit a signed parental consent form before booking
No educational or professional prerequisites

What is CELPIP?

Introduced in 2012, the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a fully computer-based English test accepted by IRCC for Canadian immigration.It evaluates functional English proficiency across 4 sections:

Writing

Speaking

It based on workplace and everyday community contexts. The test is managed by Paragon Testing Enterprises, a subsidiary of the University of British Columbia (UBC).

IELTS / PTE / CELPIP for Canada PR

Canada's Express Entry system manages federal economic immigration programs. English or French language proficiency is mandatory for all candidates and directly impacts the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which determines eligibility for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Permanent Residence.
