The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters is Australia's official body for certifying language professionals. If you need to translate personal documents for an Australian visa, university, employer, or government institution, the translation must carry a NAATI-certified stamp. Unofficial translations are not accepted.

NAATI Certification Types

NAATI offers two streams of certification —

What is the NAATI CCL Test?

The NAATI CCL, Credentialed Community Language test is a separate, standalone assessment that is not a professional interpreter or translator certification.

It simply tests your ability to interpret everyday conversations between English and another community language — such as Hindi or Punjabi. Think of it as a bilingual communication check, not a career qualification.

Why does it matter for PR applicants?

For Indian students and migrants applying for Australian Permanent Residency, passing the NAATI CCL test earns you 5 bonus points in the points-based skilled migration system. In a competitive visa pool where a handful of points can determine whether you receive an invitation this round or wait another year, these 5 points can be decisive.

The CCL test does not certify you to work professionally as a translator or interpreter in Australia. It is solely a migration points credential.
