Australia Extends Passport Validity for 16-17 Year-Olds to 10 Years

Publish Date: 04/12/2023

The 16-17-year-old applicant must personally lodge the application, accompanied by a parent during the process. Applications for the extended validity passport must still include parental consent.

Despite the longer validity, the application fee for these 10-year passports is consistent with adult passport fees. The policy adjustment recognizes the increased independence and responsibility of individuals in the 16-17 age group.

The 10-year validity reduces the need for frequent renewals, providing convenience for young travellers and authorities alike. The longer validity aligns with the travel patterns and expectations of the 16-17 age bracket.
