Australia to Conclude 408 Pandemic Visa Program on Feb 1, 2024

Publish Date: 04/12/2023

Australia is closing the Subclass 408 Pandemic Event Visa on February 1, 2024, signalling a return to normal life after pandemic recovery efforts.

Changes for visas applied between Sept 2, 2023, and closure:

  • Application reduced to 28 days or less from the previous 90 days.
  • Maximum stay reduced to 6 months from 12 months.
  • Introduction of a visa application charge.
  • Applicants must be in Australia, provide employment evidence, maintain health insurance, and can include family members.

Transitional Visa Options To Consider:

Subclass 482 Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) Visa: A popular choice for skilled workers sponsored by employers facing short-term skill shortages.

Subclass 494 Regional Visa: This addresses skill shortages in regional areas, offering a pathway to permanent residency.

Guidance: Employers and visa holders can leverage tools like Interstaff's TSS 482 and 494 Visa Tool to gain initial insights into these visa options.
