New Zealand Sees Surge in Active Investor Plus Visa Applications

Publish Date: 22/05/2025

New Zealand has seen a sharp rise in applications for its Active Investor Plus Visa—popularly known as the "golden visa"—after recent changes aimed at attracting foreign investors.

In just six weeks since the revised rules took effect in April 2025, the country received 65 new applications, most of which came from the United States, according to the Financial Times.

Key Changes Driving Interest:

  • Minimum investment lowered to NZ$5 million (approx. US$3 million)
  • No English language requirement
  • Residency obligation reduced to just 21 days
  • Faster processing time, now averaging 11 days

New Zealand Minister Stuart Nash suggested that political uncertainty in the U.S. may be one reason for the increased interest from American investors.
