IRCC accepts applications for the Rural Community Immigration Pilot and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot: 2nd July

Publish Date: 24/05/2024

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is now accepting applications from communities for two new immigration programs: the Rural Community Immigration Pilot and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot.

These programs will start onboarding and training selected communities this fall. They aim to support Canada's long-term growth and preserve linguistic diversity.

Through the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RNIP), IRCC will handle up to 5,500 permanent resident applications each year. They will choose up to 15 communities based on their economic needs, available services for newcomers, and the ability of local organizations to work with IRCC.

The selected communities will be announced in the coming months, and onboarding and training will start this fall. Interested organizations must apply by filling out IRCC's questionnaire by July 2, 2024.

Key Dates:

July 31, 2024: Last day for communities to recommend interested candidates.

August 31, 2024: Last day for candidates to apply for permanent residence.

The selection is based on:

  • Community's economic needs.
  • The availability of services and programs to help newcomers.
  • The ability of their economic development organizations to work with IRCC.
What to Expect from a Community:

This pilot is community-driven, it means the communities will:

  • Evaluate candidates who meet their economic needs.
  • Ensure candidates have a real job offer that fits community requirements.
  • Confirm candidates intend to stay in the community.
  • Recommend candidates for permanent residence to the government.
  • Help newcomers with settlement services and mentoring
